There are many types of cars available today. One of them is muscle car which is a type of car produced by American automobile companies in the 1960s and 1970s. This is why the 60s and 70s are called the American muscle car era by the automotive fans. The muscle cars are characterized by the large V-8 engine, the powerful speed, but considerably light weight. The American muscle cars are manufactured to offer you amazing speed at a relatively affordable price. The older version of muscle cars are designed to be considerably small and light with the powerful engines, but in the recent years there are automobile companies that modify the old version.

In the golden age of American muscle cars, there are many American automobile companies that involve in such a tough competition with each other especially when the Pontiac GTO was launched. The companies were trying to develop and improve the quality of the muscle cars. However, the golden era of the muscle cars ended in the middle of the 70s because of the safety concerns and the rising fuel prices. The companies stopped producing the muscle cars. This is why recently several automobile companies start to resurrect the existence of muscle cars with the improved and advanced features.

Back in the days, it was kind of tricky to determine which type of a car classified into muscle car. However, Pontiac GTO and the Dodge Charger were inevitably classified into the category of American muscle cars because the both of the cars had powerful straight line speed machine. During 60s to 70s, there were also muscle cars which were relatively smaller and less powerful. They are the Ford Mustang and the Chevy Camaro.    Basically, the American muscle cars are light weight, high powered, and designed to people who love a thrilling ride.

As mentioned above, the American muscle cars were designed to the only thing which is a straight line speed. During the era of muscle cars, there were many European automobile companies producing expensive sport cars that were amazingly powerful. However, American automobile companies at that time were trying to produce a type of a car which ignored the aspects of automobile engineering except the straight line speed. That was the significant difference between the European and American powerful cars at that time. Therefore, the American muscle cars became the most popular and fastest cars on the drag strip disregarding the comfort and the control of speed.

To sum up, the American muscle cars are really fast for a type of small and light weight cars. This type of cars only focuses on the straight line speed. If you enjoy fast driving, then you can choose muscle cars. Recently, there are automobile companies that are trying to resurrect the muscle cars era by improving several features especially for comfort and security of the cars.
